Wow. While waiting for my flight from Newark to Cleveland I called my mom to tell her the highlights of my trip. It struck me that never in such a short period of time had I learned and experienced so much. I crossed five things off of my bucket list in a matter of twelve days; three of which I had not expected. I also overcame several obstacles that I hadn’t expected to face.
The coolest thing overall is that during the trip I lost several crutches. I was without communication to my friends and family during the trip expect for the select times when I had Wi-Fi. During my journey to Scotland I lost contact with the group, which at first, was terrifying. It may sound like a negative thing but it’s not. I found out that I am capable of facing things alone and over coming them even when it seems really scary. It was the best thing for someone my age to experience. It helped me grow and opened my eyes to the vastness of the world and gave me a taste of what is still to come in my future travels.
And THE PEOPLE, WOW! Such a unique culture and sense of pride. Every corner I turned there was another person smiling as if they had been waiting to see me all day. And of course the food was incredible, each dish had authenticity to it.
My tip for anyone ever taking a trip to Scotland is to make it an extended stay and see as many parts of Scotland as you can. It is a hidden gem in the western hemisphere and it was unlike anything I had ever seen in my life. While I am excited to see my friends and family, I am truly sad to leave. Truly an amazing experience and most importantly I will be back! Goodbye for now Scotland.
